Master Your Digital Camera On The Award Wining St Lucia Photo Tour …
Do The Photo Tour At The Start Of Your Vacation To Get Your Best Pictures Ever During The Rest Of Your Stay…
If your Digital Camera has Aperture & Shutter Speed Priorities and a Manual Mode too, but you never really get out of the Auto or Programmed Modes then the St Lucia Photo Tour is the perfect St Lucia excursion for you.
I’m convinced that camera manuals are written in Swahili with the sole intention of making us all feel stupid. But not to worry as I have your back, and on the St Lucia Photo Tour we will unpack it all and break it down into plain and simple English.
And finally you will understand what all those fancy buttons on your camera can really allow you to do…
St Lucia Photo Tour In A Nutshell
This nutshell overview of the St Lucia Photo Tour is perfect if you thrive on the bare bones approach. However, below you will find a detailed Photo Tour description in which no stone is left unturned.
But either way we’ve got you covered…
St Lucia Photo Tour In Detail
We pick you up at your resort then head to the beautiful Serenity Park in downtown Castries where Kirk has reserved an open air, over the ocean gazebo just for you…Once at the gazebo you will get an opportunity to share with the group a little about you and your photography, and at the same time you will learn the same about everyone else. This open sharing sets the stage for a great communal style day in which you will learn so much more than you imagine as learn about the interests of fellow participants.
With this done we jump right into a brief introduction to photography:
✅First you will learn exactly how the camera works. You will discover how Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO interact and impact each other to deliver specific and repeatable control over the look and feel of the pictures you create. This level of control will liberate you from the bland results that Auto & Program modes notoriously deliver. With this lesson under your belt you will understand how depth of field works and how to control it to tell meaningful photographic stories…
✅Next we will explore the elements of good photographic composition. You will learn the Rule of Thirds, how to use diagonals to strengthen your images, how to add a sense of depth to your pictures and other such strategies that will teach you how to see the perfect picture before you even click the shutter…
✅With these two fundamentals under your belt you will move on to how to engage locals when traveling abroad, for travel photography that is a cultural immersion that transports you deep into the heart and soul of your destination. If you have ever been afraid of shooting pictures of locals when traveling abroad this lesson will introduce you to the secret sauce Kirk uses that turns this fear upside down on its head and makes locals excited to share their world with you and have you shoot their pictures too….
✅Next you will learn how to analyze the light. Kirk will teach you how to find your shadow and let it guide you to creating striking outdoor pictures. And to pop things up a notch or two Kirk will teach you how to add a circular polarizing filter to the mix to bring punch and vibrance to your pictures…
✅By this time your head will likely be swimming with information that you’ll be itching to go experiment with. Kirk will help you bring it all together with a lesson on scene analysis and the Michael Angelo Theory. You will learn how to analyze and find flaws in you composition and how to chip those flaws away to reveal a photographic masterpiece same as how Michael Angelo chipped away the marble that kept David hidden from the world…
By the end of this 90 minute Introduction to Photography you will know what the most important buttons on your camera allow you to do and you will finally see the light – literally and creatively! And with all of this you will be better at photography than 97.35% of all the people out there with a digital camera.
And how did I arrive at 97.35% you ask? Well I just pulled that number out of thin air because it sounded so cool! However with your new approach to photography and the results you will achieve you will discover that I wasn’t far off…
After Work Is Play
Right after this lesson we head into the park where you’ll be given an exercise in composition as well as depth of field … and there’s a sneaky little twist that you’ll discover once you start to shoot. But that twist will set the stage for all of your photography going forward and you’re gonna love us for it… Your mission will be to use aperture settings, selective focus and the rule of thirds to create a picture like the one below. With this lesson conquered you’ll be ready to take on everything that the rest of the day can throw at you. During all of this Kirk and his team will critique your work to help your new found knowledge really sink in. And through it all Kirk will keep asking you – “What is the story of your picture” as he helps you find the story and then tell it with maximum impact. From all of this you will come to appreciate why “a picture is worth a thousand words” is so much more than just a cliche. You will get to photograph local fishing boats docked in the Castries Harbor, then it will be off to exploring downtown Castries for an exercise in perspective distortion and another lesson in low light photography inside the 100 year old Roman Catholic Cathedral.
A Real Rootsy Local Lunch Awaits You
By then you would have worked up an appetite and it will be off to The Hardest Hard Restaurant which is a melting pot of local life with patrons from the average Joe off the streets to corporate execs and high ranking government ministers all come to grab a bit and take a chill before heading back to work.
This is yet another aspect of the authentic cultural immersion you will enjoy on the St Lucia Photo Tour. Expect flavors that are bold without being overpoweringly spicy. Local cooking features lots of fresh seasonings and meats tend to be marinated overnight which serves to intensify the flavors.
So expect lunch to be a real culinary treat…
Discover & Explore Picturesque Marigot Bay
The magic of photography continues after lunch as we head off to Marigot Bay – that popular port of call for luxury mega yachts that can be jaw droppingly cool. With it’s unique inner and outer bays Marigot Bay is one of the most beautiful natural Caribbean anchorages and the inner bay is the safest of all Caribbean anchorages in times of hurricanes.
However Marigot Bay can be a difficult location to photograph, which is a wonderful thing as you will be challenged to create spectacular pictures and finding answers to this challenge will further strengthen your photography. Through it all Kirk and his team are always near to lend a “third eye”.
Marigot Bay Ferry To The Beach Side
Next up you will ride the Marigot Bay Ferry to the north side beach after shooting on the south side and the difference in photography between the sides is rather striking, as you will discover. One side is usually more challenging than the other and I look forward to hearing from you which side it was for you…
Sipping Water From A Fire Hose
By the time we wrap up down at Marigot Bay your head will be swimming with photography as your day on the St Lucia Photo Tour will be like sipping water from a fire hose … but without the sting!
What Sets The St Lucia Photo Tour Apart
The St Lucia Photo Tour is unlike any other St Lucia Excursion and unlike any other photo tour you are likely to find.
While Kirk is immensely knowledgeable in both the technical and the artistic aspects of photography, what truly sets him apart is his passion for the art, the unreserved way in which he freely shares his knowledge and his unique style of breaking down complex theories and ideas with simple everyday analogies… his Michael Angelo Theory being one such example of this. Kirk holds nothing back and encourages you to take away as much as you can so that you too may get immense joy out of your photography just like he does…
What Folks Are Saying On Trip Advisor

Kirk has a extraordinary ability to speak to multiple audiences at the same time. I was traveling with my mom and sister, both of whom were relative beginners, and Kirk was patient and empathic with both. He took plenty of time to help them with basics of using a DSLR and framing good photos.Read more
He was very professional and he ensured that we were comfortable and was also very encouraging throughout the shoot. He also shared his knowledge about the island as we journeyed to the various locations.Read more

Kirk shared his wealth of information & love of photography in a full day of photography lessons & taking in the beautiful island of St Lucia. Kirk picked me up at the Sugar Beach Resort & had a plan for our day. What If It Rains?
…So what if it rains!!! Unless it’s a hurricane we hardly ever stop for rain as it’s just another fact of life, and one that makes for great photography too. We have umbrellas to shelter you and plastic bags to jeep your camera dry. Plus rain provides a whole new and different photographic opportunity, from reflections in puddles of water, to the way water droplets may bead on cars, to the softness rainy day light brings to portraiture. So this seeming challenge is simply another opportunity for photographic creativity.
So again I ask – So what if it rains!
